ABOUT THE CLUB

History
On The Edge Bike Shop started the development team in February 2001 with two students from Chatelech High School in Sechelt, BC along with two students from Elphinstone High School in Gibsons, BC and two adults. Over the years the club has expanded considerably. In 2010 our membership grew to over 120.
The sponsored youth team enjoyed a successful 2009 season with several high school and provincial championships, podium finishes at BC Cup and Canada Cup races and numerous top 10 finishes at races throughout British Columbia, Alberta, Quebec and the Pacific Northwest.
Working with various committees about the Sunshine Coast we have made an effort to promote cycling safety. The club was also involved in considerable trail restoration and assisted in securing funding for trail restoration and working closely with BC Timber Sales, Terminal Forest Products and Capilano University Mountain Bike Operators Program. We expect to continue our involvement with advocacy throughout 2010.
The Club provides a positive, supportive, safe family atmosphere. Our enthusiasm and positive attitudes have gained us much media attention both locally, throughout the province and nationally.
Members of Sunshine Coast Cycling Club act as leaders and role models for young riders in the school programs. In fact, the bulk of them started with the Sprockids Program in elementary school. All of the youth team members will participate in most local events and programs either as racers, volunteers, mechanics, ride leaders or instructors. Club members proudly wear their sponsor’s jerseys, jackets and promote sponsor products during training, racing and participation at various events.
